Instructional Programs

Campus Recreation offers a variety of FREE group fitness classes, such as Cardio Kickboxing, Ab Blaster, Zumba, Yoga, and more.  Each class has a trained instructor that teaches and demonstrates the skills and movements needed for the class.  Instructors show modifications for all skill levels. Progression and difficulty are added throughout the semester. 

All classes are held in the Aerobics Room located on the Second floor of the Student Recreation Center.

Instructional Program Descriptions - Fall 2009

Circuit Training:  Don’t know what to do for a workout? Need some motivation? Trouble fitting a workout into your day? This 30 minute class will give you a full body strengthening and toning workout along with spurts of aerobic activity in between each resistance training exercise. Get your cardio and strengthening for the day all in one-30 min workout during your lunch break!!

Power Yoga:  This class consists of 30 minutes of vinyasa (or flow) yoga. Vinyasa means flowing from one position into the next with very few resting periods. This is yoga that will make you sweat! This class is offered to all and there are no prerequisites, but yoga basic is suggested for all yoga in order to learn and maintain proper form. Modifications will always be offered.

Body Sculpting:  Using dumbbells, Xertubes, and Challenge Pro Body Bars discover ways to challenge your muscles to help get the desired definition you have been trying for.  This class will increase your muscular strength and stability while improving your flexibility and endurance.  Emphasis will be placed on correct form and technique to achieve the best results.

Yoga:  Stretching, breathing, strengthening, twisting, balancing, and relaxing all while getting a good workout?? Yes! This class is a basis of yogic poses designed to keep the body strong, yet lucid- which is vital as the body grows older. There is no prerequisite for this class and is open to all.

Step Into Shape:  A beginners step class which incorporates a variety of routines followed by toning.  Learn basic step and progress each week to learn more challenging routines!  A great place to start if you wish to work up to more difficult classes.

Step:  A cardio step aerobics routine will be followed by toning. Each class will center on toning a different muscle group. All levels of participants are encouraged to take part!

Step-Plus:   Step-plus will challenge your cardiovascular training by increasing the step routine intensity...come check it out!

Zumba:  Zumba is a high energy, heart pumping, dance-inspired workout that fuses traditional Latin rhythms with hip hop. Each class features simple, fun routines that help tone the body and get heart rates going! Dance experience is not required. Best of all, you will be having so much fun you'll forget you're even working out!

Core Strength:  Looking for new ways to target your lower abs, thighs and glutes? This class uses the popular Pilates workout to tone the core and strengthen the muscles you never knew you had. Enjoy an effective moderate intensity workout that will challenge your body in new ways and leave you feeling the burn!

Cardio Kickboxing:  Are you interested in burning 500-800 calories in one class?  This class will keep you moving with punches, kicks, and different combinations that build muscle tone and cardiovascular endurance followed by core-strengthening moves towards the end of class.  Get ready to burn those calories while having fun!

Butt Blaster:  This 25 minute work out is a condensed “butt only” class to target your rear.  Various exercises will be used to help tighten, lift, and tone this often forgotten area.  No experience needed.

Yoga-lates:  A fusion of the ancient discipline of yoga with the modern pilates techniques, the exercises mix both disciplines to develop core strength, help tone muscles, increase flexibility, and reduce stress.

Ab Blaster:  Build core stability as you strengthen your trunk muscles in this fantastic 25-minute workout.  Classes focus on a wide variety of safe, effective exercises for the abs and lower back.

Calorie Blaster:  This intense fat burning class utilizes miniature circuits that improve muscular strength and endurance. Circuits are performed in short timed intervals that are rotated throughout the class. Come try this high-energy head to toe workout that strengthens and tones all major muscle groups and abs.

Pump: For all fitness levels, a complete cardio and sculpting class that focuses on total conditioning and designed to MOTIVATE!

Tae Kwon Do:  This class is designed to have fun in martial arts, but also take training seriously.  Techniques will cover white belt through Black Belt, with an emphasis on the World Tae Kwon Do Federation. Throughout the semester students will be encouraged to earn and test for belt ranks. Students will also have many opportunities to participate in supplementary clinics, seminars, and tournaments at Truman State University and throughout Missouri and Kansas.  All students, with or without prior experience, are welcome.
